Workshop 1

Gathering of Drums

Experience close up, drums such as the Qilaut from Greenland, the Kundu drum (Papa New Guinea) and the Sami Drum (Sami land) otherwise viewable only in institutions such as The British Museum and The New York Metropolitan Museum.

During the workshop, participants will be introduced to the collection of instruments, from around the world, known as the Gathering of Drums. They will learn about their history, cultural backgrounds and traditional uses, along with ways to incorporate them into more contemporary settings. ​​

Workshop 2

Afro-Cuban rhythms applied to the drum kit

Learn new rhythms to integrate into your playing such as Son, Palo and Yambu. You will learn how the rhythms are played on traditional instruments, followed by applications to take them on to the drum kit.   

Workshop 3

West African rhythms applied to the drum kit

Using the Kuku rhythm from Ghana, you will first learn the various djembe, dun dun and bell patterns, followed by applications to play them on the drum kit.
